SABIS® Regional Director, Mr. Salah Ayche, visited the International School
of Choueifat-Erbil for the first time from April 5 to 10, 2009. The visit is part of SABIS®'s ongoing efforts to ensure that the SABIS® mission
and philosophy are instilled in member schools and to help all students achieve academic success.
Mr. Ayche, a seasoned SABIS® administrator whose tenure dates back to 1980, is currently the Regional Director
of one of the five main regions within the network and is responsible for overseeing the operation of SABIS® schools
in Germany, Egypt, the UK, Iraq, and Pakistan. His visit comes on the heels of the recent division of SABIS® Schools
into different regions and the set-up of Regional Academic Centers that are operationally responsible for the schools
in their regions.
On his visit to ISC-Erbil, Mr. Ayche met with the SABIS® representative and the School Director. He also met with
the Heads of Department of English, math, and science as well as the Academic Quality Controllers.
Mr. Ayche toured all parts of the school campus and visited several classrooms to observe the instruction and
implementation of the SABIS Point System®. He also gave a two-hour presentation on the SABIS Point System® to the
faculty of Choueifat and the SABIS® PPP School, Fakhir Mergasori International School, to reiterate the importance
of the SABIS® teaching approach in keeping students engaged and learning efficiently.
Other plans on Mr. Ayche's agenda included reviewing discipline procedures and practices with the Student
Management Coordinator and discussing student involvement with the Student Life Coordinator.
On the sideline of his visit to ISC-Erbil, Mr. Ayche took the opportunity to pay a visit to the newly opened
SABIS® University College of Education. The College, which will operate for approximately two years in temporary
facilities provided by the Kurdish government, is geared to providing a solid post-secondary education to prepare
individuals to become competent teachers.
A member of the SABIS® School Network, ISC-Erbil currently serves over 700 students in Kindergarten through
Grade 7 and provides them with a high-quality education experience that helps them become responsible world-class
citizens.
